Today, many regenerative lifesaving therapies are expensive and require hospital-based care. However, scientists are in the process of creating cures which will be delivered in vivo (“in the body”), ideally as a “single shot” that is effective, safe, durable, accessible, and affordable, representing truly ambitious science by any standard. If successful, these in vivo gene therapies will be a game changer, not only in parts of the world that cannot afford many of the treatments that are becoming available here in the U.S., but in the U.S. as well. They could, indeed, be a new way to treat chronic disease, one that would not require adherence to daily medications and that could well become accessible to all in need.

The Science of Cures will follow the patients who are participating in clinical trials for in vivo cures from different diseases, including sickle cell disease and other diseases of the blood system, hypercholesterolemia and other disease of the heart, HIV disease, and cancer. This film will show how the relentless pursuit of scientific breakthroughs is creating a future where many diseases will become a thing of the past and at a price point that is affordable around the world, inspiring viewers to support these therapies as they are in the process of saving lives and potentially billions of dollars in healthcare costs.
